University Hospital

Osaka City University Hospital was originally established in October 1925 as the municipal hospital for the city of Osaka. It became a university hospital belonging to the Osaka City University Faculty of Medicine in 1955. The current hospital facilities were built in 1993 to mark the 100th anniversary of the city of Osaka.?

The mission of the hospital is to ‘provide high quality health care for the people of Osaka’, ‘foster warm-hearted and reliable health professionals’, and ‘always strive to further develop medical care’. The mission is based on the motto of the university’s Faculty of Medicine: ‘Wisdom, Blessing and Bravery’.?

The hospital has 32 outpatient departments, handling more than 2000 patients on average each day, making it one of the largest general hospitals in Japan. It is well-known as a university hospital providing state-of-the-art medicine and medical care. As a government-designated ‘Advanced Treatment Hospital’, we work hard to provide high-quality medical care and develop advanced medical technology, in close cooperation with other medical institutions.?

In 2008 we were designated as a Liver Disease Care Liaison Hospital by the Osaka Prefectural government and in 2009 as a Cancer Care District Liaison Hospital by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.?

In 2012 the Japan Council for Quality Health Care positively renewed our evaluation as ‘health care institution providing high-quality medical services’, based on its Hospital Evaluation Standard (Ver.6.0).
